Vour relation to home and nature is reinterpreted in several of this summer's art exhibitions. But there will also be queer art and giant aquariums. Here are nine tips to spot.

"Home's foundation", Havremagasinet, Boden.

What is a home? Architects, artists, and carpenters try to answer that here. With a starting point in eight fundamentals, including memory, room, care, and food.

8 June–29 September

"A place to call home", Alma Löv, Sunne.

The concept of a home changes in times of change, migration, and climate crisis. Here, ten artists interpret what a home is, but also homelessness and homesickness.

15 June–1 September

"Vargtimme", Jonatan Pihlgren, Göteborgs konsthall, Göteborg

Jonatan Pihlgren's expressive paintings are showcased in over 100 works. He depicts friends and everyday life, with surrealist infusions. Pihlgren himself emphasizes that he "tries to expand stories and perspectives on life".

4 May–5 September

"I väntan på miraklet", Frida Peterson, Artipelag, Stockholm

She often uses modest materials for sculptures and handicrafts. The Fredrik Roos scholarship holder Frida Peterson shows the possibilities of sculpture at Artipelag.

17 May–7 July

"Ilon Wiklands bildvärldar", Göteborgs konstmuseum, Göteborg

Ilon Wikland's beloved illustration world is celebrated with over 400 works: enchanted fairy tale worlds, deep forests, and cobblestone streets – and of course illustrations from Astrid Lindgren's stories.

25 May 2024–12 January 2025

"After tomorrow at sunrise", Bildmuseet, Umeå

Young contemporary art by students on the master's program in fine arts at the University of Fine Arts in Umeå. They show their own works and a joint sculpture garden outside the museum.

24 May–18 August

"The ocean in the forest", Wanås konst, Knislinge

Three international artists make art about the ocean in a prehistoric spruce forest. Lebanese Youmna Chlala, Nigerian Evan Ifekoya, and Argentine Eduardo Navarro focus on fables that shape humanity's relationship with the planet.

4 May–3 November

"Vanishing point" by Hans Op de Beeck, Nordiska akvarellmuseet, Tjörn.

Belgian Hans Op de Beeck is known for his monumental installations and black-and-white watercolors. Here, he also shows "Danse macabre" – a monochromatic carousel in natural size that is meant to remind us of the fleeting nature of life.

26 May–22 September

Vaginal Davis, Moderna Museet and Nationalmuseum, Stockholm

Punk artist Vaginal Davis takes over Stockholm with queer art. At Moderna Museet, the solo exhibition "Magnificent product" is shown, and at Nationalmuseum, an installation about the wizards and witches in the land of Oz.

Nationalmuseum 17 May–20 October. Moderna Museet 18 May–13 October.

"Festivitas". 21 members of Konsthantverkscentrum show the breadth of Swedish handicraft at Form/Design Center in Malmö. 15 June–8 September.

"Fältvandring/Hur griper jag mig an min plats på jorden?" by Gunnel Pettersson. Kivik Art Center, Österlen. From 30 June.

"Photo synthesis" by Shepard Fairey – known for his street art. Fotografiska, Stockholm. 14 June–13 October.
