Thanks to increased sales pressure during the summer, confidence in retail and wholesale trade is increasing for the next three months. At the same time, it is decreasing for e-commerce, according to the Swedish Trade Federation's latest trade barometer.
"The industry has gone through a baptism of fire in recent years in the form of plummeting sales and deteriorating profitability. The positive signals need to be reflected in the figures soon," says Sofia Larsen, CEO of the Swedish Trade Federation, in a press release.
Expectations for e-commerce are going backwards after last month's increase. The Swedish Trade Federation is worried that companies from third countries, such as Temu and Shein, may erode Swedish market shares. This is problematic from a sustainability perspective, according to Sofia Larsen:
"The Swedish EU parliamentarians who have now received their mandate must put the issue high on the agenda," she says in a press release.
