Hezbollah claims to have carried out a large rocket attack on the city of Safed in northern Israel, according to several media outlets citing a formal statement from the Lebanese Shia movement.
It is unclear how many rockets are involved, but it is described as a "larger salvo". In Israel, air raid warnings have been issued in areas around Safed and several locations closer to the border.
Israel had earlier on Monday morning announced that a high-ranking Hezbollah commander in southern Lebanon had been killed in an Israeli air strike. It was not clear when this had occurred.
The commander in question was accused by Israel of planning attacks on Israel and leading Hezbollah's work in Lebanon's southern border areas.
