Governments and UN agencies react with anger over the attack on Nasser Hospital in the Gaza city of Khan Yunis, where at least 20 people were killed. At least five of the fatalities were journalists working for international media organizations.

"It is unacceptable that journalists are injured and killed in the line of duty," writes Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (The Moderate Party) to TT.

"The government has long demanded that international media be given access to Gaza, that journalists can work safely and securely in conflict-affected areas to be able to report correctly based on what is happening on the spot." continues Malmer Stenergard and states that "it is a responsibility that rests on all parties".

Must be protected

UK Foreign Minister David Lammy is also sharply critical:

"Civilians, medical personnel and journalists must be protected. We need an immediate ceasefire”.

Germany's Foreign Ministry expresses "shock" over the Israeli attack.

UN agency Unrwa's chief Philippe Lazzarini attacks the world's lack of commitment to those affected in Gaza.

"The world's indifference and passivity are shocking", writes Lazzarini on X. The statement from the head of the Palestinian refugee agency Unrwa is made after the Israeli attack on Khan Yunis, where "the last remaining voices that report on children dying of starvation are being silenced".

Journalists not targets

The UN human rights agency also condemns the attacks: "Journalists are not targets, hospitals are not targets".

The international journalists' association FPA (The Foreign Press Association) "urges Israel to once and for all put an end to the despicable way it targets journalists" in a statement sent to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli military.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu countered late on Monday that the Israeli military is investigating the incident.

Netanyahu adds that he "values the work of journalists, medical personnel and all civilians".
