With water buckets in their hands, residents in Donetsk wait for their turn to get their water ration.
"I am 78 years old and need to wash myself, but how am I supposed to carry the water home?", says a pensioner in the queue who calls herself Lyubov to Reuters.
According to the Moscow-loyal leader in occupied Donetsk, Denis Pusjilin, the water supply is limited to a few hours approximately every third day. He blames Ukraine for blocking the water from entering Donetsk, but the accusation is rejected by Ukraine which means that the canal has been damaged in the war.
Pusjilin claims that the water shortage can only be solved if Russia takes full control of all of Donetsk.
Due to the water shortage, the residents of Donetsk have written an open letter to Russia's President Vladimir Putin, where they ask him to address what they call "a humanitarian and ecological disaster".
