Kellogg, who is President Donald Trump's special envoy in Ukraine, visited Kyiv on Monday in connection with the country's celebration of independence. After a national prayer breakfast, Kellogg said that the content of the previously promised security guarantees for Ukraine is an "ongoing work".

Kellogg met President Volodymyr Zelenskyj during the visit to Kyiv. Also, preparations for a possible meeting between Zelenskyj and the Russian leader Vladimir Putin were on the agenda, according to Zelenskyj.

At the same time, Germany's Vice Chancellor, Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, was in the Ukrainian capital. He emphasized the importance of security guarantees for Ukraine to achieve a lasting peace with the Russian invasion force.

"Germany will take its responsibility", said the social democrat Klingbeil.

Ukraine's stance is that foreign forces on Ukrainian soil will be of utmost importance after the war – a solution that Russia has repeatedly opposed.
