The Swedish U21 national team player in football Deniz Gül has chosen to represent Turkey in international matches in the future, according to U21 national team coach Daniel Bäckström at a press conference.

He has expressed a desire to play for Turkey and then it will be so. It is as it is and we have to accept the decision, says Daniel Bäckström.

The national team coach Jon Dahl Tomasson on Gül's decision:

A player should always choose with their heart. One must respect that. I will always think so, he says.

Gül was born and raised in Stockholm, where the 20-year-old has played for Stuvsta, Segeltorp, Brommapojkarna, AIK, Djursholm and Hammarby. He left Hammarby last summer for Portuguese Porto. There, he has played two matches and scored one goal this autumn.

Gül played six international matches for U19 last year and six for U21 this year, where he scored two goals.
