Germany's president Frank-Walter Steinmeier warns of the dangers of nationalism, after the far-right made gains in the EU election.
It is "fitting that it is the day after the European elections that I say – let us never forget the harm that nationalism and hatred have caused in Europe", he says during a visit to France.
The president and French president Emmanuel Macron took part on Monday in a ceremony to commemorate a massacre carried out by German Nazi forces in France 80 years ago.
Germany's president has mainly representative duties, while Chancellor Olaf Scholz is the head of government.
