The Hamas representative Bassem Naim stated on Friday that he had received information that an Israeli delegation would travel for continued talks in the beginning of next week. Previous talks have been held in Qatar.
Naim's statements come the day after the US called home its negotiating team from Qatar, and after President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, said that Hamas's latest response to the negotiations showed a "lack of will" to reach a ceasefire.
The mediators put pressure
This view is shared by Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"Together with our ally the US, we are now looking at alternative ways to bring home the hostages, put an end to Hamas's terrorist regime and ensure a lasting peace for Israel and our region", he says in a statement.
The Israeli government has not yet commented on whether the negotiations will be resumed next week.
The mediating countries Qatar and Egypt announce in a joint statement that they will continue to push for the resumption of talks to put an end to the war in Gaza. They also note that "interrupting the talks to consult before the dialogue is resumed is normal in such complex negotiations".
Talks for weeks
The parties have held talks in Qatar for several weeks, with reports of small progress but no major breakthrough. Hamas says that they will only release all Israeli hostages in exchange for a complete Israeli withdrawal and an end to the war.
Israel says that they will not agree to end the conflict until Hamas gives up power and disarms.
The militant group says that it is willing to relinquish power, but not to lay down its arms.
