IDF reports that this is being done as a result of the severe humanitarian situation – but insists at the same time that there is no famine in Gaza.
This is about Jordan and the United Arab Emirates being allowed again to drop food, reports The Times of Israel. The drops are coordinated by IDF and Jordan is expected to distribute food as early as Friday.
Last year, the US, Jordan, Egypt, and France dropped tens of thousands of meals over northern Gaza.
At the same time, reports of food shortages in Gaza continue to pour in. In the past 24 hours, nine people have died due to malnutrition, reports Haaretz. A total of 122 people, including 83 children, have died from hunger-related causes in Gaza. According to the UN's food program (WFP), nearly a third of Gaza's inhabitants have not eaten anything for several days.
For tens of thousands, the situation is acute.
"Malnutrition is increasing sharply with 90,000 women and children in desperate need of help," says WFP in a statement.
In a joint statement, the UK, Germany, and France demand that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza must cease.
"We urge the Israeli government to immediately lift its restrictions on aid and supplies into the country and to allow the UN and humanitarian organizations to carry out their work in order to take action against starvation," the countries write according to AFP.
The statement comes after an "emergency call" between the countries on Friday.
