On Friday, Parikkala in eastern Finland reached 30.3 degrees Celsius before noon, which means that temperatures have now risen to 30 degrees in some part of the country for 14 days in a row, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute on X.

This breaks the previous record of 13 days in a row from June and July 1972.

According to meteorologist Ville Siiskonen at the Meteorological Institute of Finland, climate change increases the likelihood of exceptionally warm summers, but the current record period cannot be blamed on climate change until more studies have been done.

The record comes a year after Lapland in northern Finland, Norway and Sweden experienced their warmest summer in 2,000 years in 2024.
