The Philippines' highest court stopped on Friday the planned impeachment trial in the Senate against the country's Vice President Sara Duterte. The court referred to a rule in the constitution that says you are not allowed to initiate more than one impeachment trial against the same person within a year.
Sara Duterte, daughter of the Philippines' tough former President Rodrigo Duterte, is accused of unconstitutional corruption and other serious crimes – among them murder threats against the country's President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, his wife and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Sara Duterte has hinted that she wants to run in the presidential election in 2028, but is now fighting for her political survival.
Correction: In an earlier version, the wrong president was stated as the victim of the murder threats.
