After talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah on Thursday, Barrot says France has been driving in the EU to impose sanctions on Israeli settlers in two rounds.
This system has already been activated twice and we are working on a third round of sanctions, says Barrot.
Barrot reiterates France's support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and warns that settlement activities threaten "a lasting peace for Israel and Palestine”.
Before meeting with Abbas, Barrot visited the neighboring town of al-Bireh, where Israeli settlers set fire to 20 cars on Monday and damaged a nearby building.
These attacks by extremist and violent settlers are not only completely unacceptable, not only in violation of international law, but they also undermine the possibility of achieving a two-state solution, said Barrot.
The West Bank has been occupied by Israel since the Six-Day War in 1967.
