A court in New York has set the sentence for Honduras' former president Juan Orlando Hernández to 45 years' imprisonment after he was previously convicted of aiding and abetting drug smuggling.
He will also be fined eight million dollars, equivalent to approximately 84 million Swedish kronor.
According to the verdict, which fell in March, he took the help of Honduras' military and police to assist drug traffickers with the smuggling of tonnes of cocaine into the USA.
Hernández has previously hinted that he will appeal the verdict.
Hernández was president of Honduras from 2014 to 2022.
