Over 60 million kronor. That's how much a Stegosaurus skeleton – described as the "most complete and well-preserved" of its kind – can fetch when it goes under the hammer later this summer.
The roughly 150 million-year-old dinosaur fossil, which is about 3.3 meters high and 6 meters long, will be auctioned off by Sotheby's in New York, USA, in mid-July. Paleontologists have, however, questioned the sale and argue that finds of this caliber belong in museums or other public places, according to CNN.
The skeleton is expected to sell for between $4 and $6 million, which would make it one of the most valuable dinosaur fossils ever sold at auction, according to Sotheby's.
The fossil was discovered near the town of Dinosaur in the US state of Colorado in 2022.
