The siblings found were born between 1991 and 2007. So far, 34 siblings have been found, but there may be more. Within the past two months, three new siblings have been found through DNA testing, the latest as recently as last week. They all have the same father - a Finnish man who donated sperm to a doctor who also treated Swedish patients.
The siblings have a joint table of the siblings found in different DNA databases.
In Sweden, anonymous sperm donations were banned in 1985, which led to queues for treatment and Swedes seeking treatment in neighboring Finland.
In several of the siblings' stories, the name of the same Finnish doctor is repeated. He had a clinic and sperm bank located at several different addresses in Helsinki. The donor has told his relatives that he donated sperm to that clinic.
The doctor speaks fluent Swedish and has previously worked in Sweden, specifically in the Uppsala and Stockholm areas, according to Yle.
The doctor denies intentionally using the same donor for over 30 children. He claims that he also bought sperm from other sperm banks, but may have used the same donor without knowing it.
Finland limited the use of the same donor to five different patients in 2007, prior to which each fertility clinic decided on its own guidelines for treatment.
