The number of mountain rescues during the summer continues to decrease. Between June 1 and September 30, 114 mountain rescues were carried out, compared to 128 during the same period last year, according to the police.
The statistics apply to the entire Swedish mountain range in Norrbotten, Västerbotten, Jämtland, and Dalarna counties. Norrbotten is clearly at the top during the summer, as many people get injured during their hikes to Kebnekaise.
The number of mountain rescues is not only decreasing during the summer, but the trend also shows a downward curve during the winter.
What is causing the decrease is unclear.
