The detonation occurred at a street intersection on Östervärn in Malmö just before midnight on Wednesday evening.
It is still unclear who or what this was directed against. There are several different businesses in the area and, of course, many people living right nearby, says Malmö police spokesperson Nils Norling.
The explosion caused material damage, but no people are reported to have been injured. Among other things, windows were shattered in a store, as well as facades and vehicles.
During the night, the area was cordoned off and examined by bomb technicians and forensic experts. The police still cannot say what detonated.
But it's not a firework, it's something more powerful, says Nils Norling.
