The EU Commission should have been more open with details surrounding the agreements concluded to purchase covid vaccines during the pandemic. This is stated by the European Union's Court of Justice on Wednesday.
During 2020 and 2021, agreements for covid vaccines were concluded between the Commission and several pharmaceutical companies. In 2021, some Members of Parliament and private individuals requested access to the agreements and related documents. The Commission then only published certain contracts and documents online, in edited versions, and kept secret, among other things, the price of the vaccine doses.
According to the court, the Commission "has not taken sufficient account of all relevant circumstances to correctly weigh the conflicting interests" in the matter. Therefore, the Commission's decision is annulled.
