In pictures from the state news agency KCNA, Kim Jong-Un is seen placing medals and flowers at pictures of fallen soldiers, who are described as heroes. In another picture, he is embracing a returning soldier.

Kim Jong-Un has also met with relatives of the fallen soldiers to "show his participation in their grief", reports KCNA.

North Korea is estimated to have sent over 10,000 soldiers, as well as a large quantity of weapons, to Russia in 2024, according to South Korean and Western intelligence information.

Several hundred North Korean soldiers are believed to have been killed and thousands injured in Russia's war of aggression.

In exchange, North Korea appears to have received, among other things, expanded assistance with advanced space and satellite technology, according to the USA.
