China's ambassador in Prague has been summoned to the department, announces Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky.

"I summoned the Chinese ambassador to clarify that such hostile actions have serious consequences for our bilateral relations," Lipavsky writes in social media.

The attack is said to have begun. According to the department's own investigation, it was a group called APT31 that was behind it, a group that several states have pointed out as clearly linked to China's security service.

NATO also does so, which in a press release condemns the incident and expresses solidarity with member country the Czech Republic.

"We are increasingly concerned about a growing pattern of malicious cyber activity originating from the People's Republic of China," the military alliance announces.

APT31 has been mentioned earlier in Chinese cyber attacks in Europe. Between 2020 and 2021, the group carried out extensive attacks, including through technical infrastructure in Sweden, has the Security Police previously announced.

The EU is also standing by the Czech Republic's side, announces Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas. In a release, she notes that the union has previously marked against this but that member states have alerted about more and more attacks.

"We have repeatedly raised our concerns in bilateral contexts and we will continue to do so in the future," Kallas announces.
