The news of her death came from Dahlmeier's team shortly after 14.30 on Wednesday.

"Based on the helicopter overflight and the climbing partner's description of how serious her injuries were, it can be assumed that Laura Dahlmeier died immediately", they comment to German ZDF.

It was during lunchtime on Monday that Dahlmeier, together with her climbing partner Marina Eva, was involved in the accident. Dahlmeier was hit by a rockslide at an altitude of 5,700 meters in the Karakoram mountains in Pakistan. Eva was able to immediately alert others to the accident, but Dahlmeier's condition was unknown for a long time. Several rescue efforts were initiated, with a helicopter and climbers.

"Left on the mountain"

Dahlmeier's body will not be recovered from the scene of the accident, according to German media.

"Her wish was that if something like this were to happen, her body should be left on the mountain", Dahlmeier's team writes in the statement, according to several media outlets, including ZDF.

Dahlmeier was a certified mountain and ski guide and had recently climbed other peaks in the region.

Unclear cause

Exactly what caused the accident is not known.

Due to the difficult weather conditions, a rescue helicopter was not able to be sent to the location until Tuesday, but it returned without finding any signs of life.

A rescue expedition with four climbers was initiated on Wednesday, but their journey upwards was made more difficult by the risk of new rockslides.
