Hagag Group recently announced that the luxury hotel in Herzliya marina has now been approved. Leonardo di Caprio owns 10 percent, while Hagag Group and the brothers and multimillionaires Ahikam and Lior Cohen own the rest, according to Jerusalem Post.

The project was launched as early as 2018 but has now been approved by the building committee in Tel Aviv. The hotel covers 51,000 square meters, will be located by the beach and will be eco-certified.

But on social media, protests are growing. In thousands of comments, Di Caprio is criticized for investing in a country that is accused by a long list of organizations - including Israeli human rights groups - of committing genocide in Gaza.

"Boycott him and his movies - and all other companies that support those who kill and starve innocent people", writes a user on Instagram.

Several accuse the actor of hypocrisy, including author and activist Shaun King. Di Caprio has not yet commented on the criticism publicly.
