Magdalena Eriksson has not played for her Bayern München since the super cup final against Wolfsburg on August 25.
Or yes, she has. But only for a brief minute, after being substituted in at the end of extra time against Bayer Leverkusen last weekend.
Yes, it was just one ball touch, she says.
It's a troublesome injury in one knee that has been the problem. Magdalena Eriksson has indeed sat on the bench occasionally, but doesn't feel ready for real play until now.
There has been a lot of uncertainty and a difficult situation, says the Bayern München star ahead of Tuesday's European Championship qualifying match against Luxembourg.
But now it feels like we've got more clarity and I'm slowly but surely getting back and ready for match minutes.
"Feeling ready"
Magdalena Eriksson sat on the bench in the first playoff match against Luxembourg on Friday (4–0). How many minutes she'll get in Tuesday's return match in Gothenburg remains to be seen, she continues.
Good question. It's something we'll have to discuss with the medical team and Peter (national team coach Gerhardsson). What I can say from my perspective is that I feel very fresh and that I feel ready.
But how many minutes it'll be, that's up to Peter to decide.
"Very many players"
Peter Gerhardsson himself is, as usual, secretive about the starting lineup. But the alternatives are many, he notes after Monday's training.
I don't know if I've ever experienced it before, that all 25 players have trained fully at the gathering, he says.
It means we have very many players.
At the same time, he hints that it may well be possible to give Magdalena Eriksson some playing time.
Magdalena could have played a minute on Friday too, but we chose to let her step up her training a bit more, he says.
I have some idea of what she has in her body. But it's linked to very good cooperation with the medical team.
Qualified for the European Championship 2025: Switzerland (host nation), France, England, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Denmark, Germany, Iceland.
The remaining seven spots will be decided through a two-stage playoff. The teams will meet at home and away.
Sweden won away against Luxembourg on Friday with 4–0. The return match is played in Gothenburg on Tuesday evening.
If Sweden wins the double match, they will face a decisive playoff against either Serbia or Bosnia-Herzegovina in the November-December shift.
