At least 37 people have died in India after drinking poisonous liquor near Kallakurichi in the state of Tamil Nadu. Over 70 others are being treated in hospital.
A 50-year-old man has been arrested, accused of selling the illegal liquor. Over 200 litres have been seized, reports the Times of India.
Laboratory tests have shown that the illegal drink contained methanol.
According to the police, many people from the town of Kallakurichi and surrounding areas had drunk illegal liquor sold on Tuesday evening. When they got home, several complained of symptoms including dizziness, headaches, nausea, and stomach pain.
