It shows a new report from the Agency for Cultural Analysis, which has compiled the latest statistics. As a percentage of the state's total expenditure, the allocations for culture, media, and adult education were 1.2 percent in 2023. This is the lowest level since 2004.
Other state expenditures have simply increased more, says Martin Rickardsson, investigator at Cultural Analysis.
The report also shows that the state's allocations for culture, media, and adult education decreased in 2023 compared to the previous year. But this is mainly due to the disappearance of the special pandemic support.
This explains almost the entire decrease, says Martin Rickardsson.
Due to inflation, the decrease was even greater in practice. The regions' and municipalities' cultural expenditures increased in 2023 in current prices – that is, if one does not take into account inflation.
If one takes into account inflation, the municipalities' and regions' cultural expenditures decreased according to the report.
The state allocations include the budget for culture, media, and adult education.
The State: 14.9 billion kronor (1,407 kr per inhabitant)
