The proposal risks both lowering the quality and limiting the work with public art, according to Magdalena Malm, Secretary-General of Bildkonst Sverige.
"The risk analysis has some serious flaws, which in the long run can have extensive negative consequences for the work with public art, architecture, design, and designed living environment throughout the country", she writes in a press release.
She also thinks that there is a lack of understanding for the significant differences between, on the one hand, filling a museum building with public activities and taking care of a collection, and on the other hand, operating throughout the country.
Karin Nilsson, Acting Director-General of Arkdes, is also critical and believes that the investigation does not take into account important parts of the operations, according to Kulturnytt.
Architecture and design, which are Arkdes' areas of expertise, are incredibly important parts of a green transition and social development forward. The part we show on Skeppsholmen in our museum section is only one part of what we do, and I don't see that the investigation takes that into account, she says.
Thomas Pålsson, Acting Director-General of the Patent and Registration Office, has been tasked with proposing how the State Centre for Architecture and Design, Arkdes, can be incorporated into the Modern Museum, as well as analyzing whether it is suitable to do the same with the State Art Council. Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand emphasizes that the state administration must be cost-effective and purposefully organized.
The proposals will now be processed in the Government Offices.
