Court: Illegal Power Shift in Botkyrka

The shift in power in Botkyrka municipality last year broke the law, according to the administrative court. The ruling, M-led coalition will appeal the verdict. We will govern until someone says otherwise, says the chairman of the municipal council Stina Lundgren (M).

For over a year ago, the coalition "Botkyrka's best" took over the government in the municipality from the Social Democrats, the Green Party, and the Liberals, the previously so-called Middle Cooperation.

The shift in power was appealed by eight politicians from S, MP, L, and the Left Party. In a verdict from the Administrative Court on Thursday, it was announced that several parts of the takeover did not follow the law, including the decision-making process.

We do not share the Administrative Court's assessment that the municipal council's election committee should prepare the matter and then the municipal council should have comments on it. It has never happened during the years I have sat on the council, says the chairman of the municipal council Stina Lundgren (M).

The Administrative Court means that this shift in power did not occur according to law. How do you view it?

We do not share that assessment and will appeal the verdict.

According to Lundgren, the government of the municipality will continue as usual, despite the verdict.

We will continue to govern until someone says otherwise, since we are appealing.

It has been stormy in Botkyrka municipality in recent years. Last year's shift in power occurred after about 40 members left the Social Democrats in Botkyrka. Several S-councilors in the council also jumped out of the party and joined the M-coalition.
