Twice as many narcotic tablets have been seized during the first six months of the year as during the whole of 2023, according to new statistics from the Customs Authority.
The seizures of marijuana, cocaine, and amphetamine oil are also increasing, while seizures of heroin, amphetamine, and hashish are decreasing. In total, the Customs Authority seized five tons of narcotics during the first half of the year.
"The large influx of narcotics, and not least of narcotic tablets, is alarming. Narcotics are a central source of income for gang crime, and as long as demand exists, smuggling will continue," says Bodil Taylor, Deputy Director-General of Customs, according to a press release.
Narcotics seizures are thus continuing to be historically high. In 2023, 5.3 tons were seized during the same period, which was a quantity that far exceeded previous results.
A clear trend is also that the individually very large seizures are becoming more frequent. Between January and June, a total of nine narcotics seizures of over 100 kilos were made, several of which were over 200 kilos.
The fact that seizures of amphetamine oil, which is used in the manufacture of amphetamine, have increased significantly suggests domestic production, according to the Customs Authority.
