One must do it by sea if one is to have large volumes, says Morgan Johansson (S), foreign policy spokesperson, at a press conference.

Think if we could see a number of countries that come together and equip each ship with food, medicines, water, and simply go into Gaza in a rescue fleet.

Within the "coalition"

He mentions several countries that have expressed solidarity with Gaza and which he believes could be part of this, such as the United Kingdom, France, Norway, Ireland, and Spain.

In that situation, Israel will have to decide whether to stop the fleet or not. But it would be difficult if several countries were behind it, says Johansson.

He urges the government to initiate a discussion with other countries, preferably within the "coalition of the willing" that the United Kingdom has spoken of, to bring about such a rescue effort.

He is not aware if it is something that is being discussed in other countries.

The government does not entirely dismiss the proposal for a rescue fleet, but sees some problems.

We are positive to all initiatives that can quickly get aid deliveries into Gaza, says Minister for Development Cooperation and Trade Benjamin Dousa (The Moderate Party).

But even a fleet would require permission from Israel's defense forces, it is several ships that have been stopped by Israel. So if the Israeli government does not change its opinion, it really does not matter whether one comes by sea or land.

"Much suggests genocide"

Recently, Israel allowed emergency aid from the air, but Johansson is critical.

It is probably the worst way to provide a starving population with supplies. Moreover, it is incredibly small volumes, he says.

Morgan Johansson says that much now suggests that what is happening in Gaza is a genocide.

It is the courts that ultimately will decide. But it does not matter for how the world should act, it has gone so far that the world must act anyway.
