Over the weekend, Expressen revealed that former NHL star Daniel Alfredsson is set for a coaching role ahead of the major tournament in North America in February.
For the first time since 2016, pure NHL national teams will face off in a four-nation tournament with Sweden, Canada, the USA, and Finland.
Exactly one year before the Olympic Games in Milan, where NHL players will also participate.
At a press conference on Monday, national team manager Anders Lundberg confirmed that contact has been made with Alfredsson, assistant coach in his old NHL club Ottawa.
However, he claims that nothing is settled yet.
We're talking to Alfredsson, we're talking to Alexander Steen, we're talking to scouts and people who are in the NHL, says Lundberg.
Previously, Tre Kronor has had former NHL stars Patric Hörnqvist and Josef Boumedienne in the team management. They will participate in the four-nation tournament together with national team captain Sam Hallam and assistant coaches Stefan Klockare and Niklas Rahm.
In the latest World Championship, Tre Kronor had four coaches in the booth during the matches for the first time.
It may be that now that we're in an NHL environment, we feel that we want to add someone who's used to working there. Then whether it's in the booth or management (national team management), that remains to be seen, says Lundberg.
Tre Kronor's first six players for the squad were presented last summer, and the remaining players will be announced at the end of November.
By then, the team's staff should also be finalized.
