The Coach Leaves Sweden: "Very Disappointed"

The national team captain led Sweden to a historic World Championship. But Giulio Cesare Bregoli will not be joining the championship – he chooses to take over Germany's national team. I'm extremely disappointed that it turned out the way it did, says star Isabelle Haak to Radiosporten.

The volleyball summer has been brilliant. First, Sweden's women's national team won the Golden League and then the national team qualified for the first time for a World Championship final.

The person behind the success?

National team captain Giulio Cesare Bregoli.

But now the Italian is leaving Sweden. The 50-year-old is instead taking over Germany's national team, which Radiosporten was the first to report.

We had a good collaboration, I liked his system and he is a really skilled coach. It's a shame that we're losing him, says Haak.

Bregoli took over the national team at the beginning of the year, had a contract written for 1+2 years but chose to decline the extension.

"We knew that the risk existed that other larger federations would attract him", says Simon Dahl, general secretary of the Swedish Volleyball Federation, to the federation's website.

"The federation has worked to extend with Giulio, but he has unfortunately chosen to decline. We thank him for the effort he made with the team during 2024 and wish him good luck."

The World Championship will be decided in August next year.
