Roma has found the club's third coach this season.
Claudio Ranieri is stepping in and will try to get the team in order, which is currently in 12th place in Serie A.
"At the end of the season, Claudio will transition to a leading role, where he will be an advisor to the owners on sports-related issues", the club writes on its website.
Roma also writes that the search for a "future coach" continues and that Ranieri, who has a contract for this season, is involved in the process.
The 73-year-old, who was born in Rome and played for the club himself, is now coaching the team for the third time in his career.
Roma has previously had Daniele De Rossi and Ivan Juric as coaches this season. In January, José Mourinho also left the club.
Ranieri's first task in his new-old job: table leaders Napoli away on November 24.
