The appeal, which gathers musicians, authors, filmmakers, and actors, is directed against AI companies that use artists' and artists' works without permission.

"The unlicensed use of creative work in the training of generative AI is a major and unfair threat to the livelihood of the people behind these works and should be prohibited", it says, among other things.

Generative AI is a form of artificial intelligence that has the ability to create text, images, music, and other content based on the data it is trained on.

Right now, several legal disputes are ongoing between tech companies and people in creative industries who believe that the unauthorized use of their works to train AI models, such as Chat GPT, is a violation of copyright.

Among the signatories are actor Julianne Moore, Radiohead singer Thom Yorke, and ABBA star Björn Ulvaeus.
