The football legend Pelé will be celebrated with his own day in Brazil.

"King Pelé's Day" will be introduced on November 19, according to a statement from the Brazilian government. This is the date when Pelé scored his 1000th goal in his career.

The purpose of the celebration is to "strengthen cultural and sporting bonds nationally and internationally". Additionally, the day will "inspire society to value sports and its symbolic figures".

Pelé died on December 29, 2022, at the age of 82. The football icon scored 95 goals for Brazil and was part of three World Championship wins.
