With a weight of 276 kilos and a size equivalent to a normal-sized motorcycle, a bluefin tuna has gone under the hammer at an annual fish auction in Tokyo. The bidding did not stop until it reached 207 million Japanese yen, equivalent to 14.5 million Swedish kronor – the second-highest price ever recorded.

The buyer, the Onodera group with several starred restaurants in the Michelin guide, has managed to win the bidding over the past five years, which in turn gives the company significant media attention in Japan.

This year's bid is still a good way off from the record bid from 2019 when a 278 kilo bluefin tuna was sold for 333.6 million yen.
