The southern parts of Europe have been affected by a heat wave. In Italy, a red heat warning, the highest on the scale, has been issued for several major cities, including Bologna and Florence.
On Tuesday, the red warning applies to eleven cities and on Wednesday to 16 cities, according to AFP.
On Monday, it was announced that a four-year-old boy had died of heatstroke. The boy was found unconscious in the family's car on Sardinia a few days ago. He was taken to a hospital in Rome but his life could not be saved, reports the news agency Ansa.
It is still closed in the national park around the volcano Vesuvius in southern Italy since a severe forest fire is raging along the mountain's slopes.
