Autumn storm on the way – yellow warning in the west

Dig out the raincoat and umbrella. Hard gusts of wind – and a yellow warning for rain and high flows in the west – are expected as the weekend approaches. Emma Rosengren, meteorologist at SMHI, does not rule out storm gusts in the south either.

A low-pressure system has moved into the country on Thursday with rain areas that are now moving over the southern half of the country.

But it doesn't stop there, on Friday the next low-pressure system will arrive with continued heavy rain in the southern part of the country.

And Västra Götaland and Halland are expected to be hit the hardest. The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has issued a yellow warning for high flows for the area.

There may be high flows, mainly in streams and rivers, due to this. There may certainly be local problems even outside the warning area if larger amounts are received, says Rosengren.

The rain will subside on Friday night, but the warning remains in place throughout the day.

Strong gusts of wind

In Svealand and Götaland, it also looks like it will rain most of Friday - and a bit into Saturday.

You should expect fairly large amounts there as well, but not so that we see it would have any serious consequences.

On Saturday, you should also expect strong to very strong gusts of wind along the southernmost coast, according to Rosengren.

It's not entirely ruled out that there could be a storm gust right next to the coast.

Generally in the south, fresh to strong gusts of wind are expected on Friday. Further north, it's not as windy.

Snow showers move in

On Saturday, showers may pass in the south, but most of the rain will move away and it also looks like the wind will die down.

In the north, there's a bit more sun, but snow showers may move in in the mountains.

It's also a colder air mass that follows behind these low-pressure systems that pass. It will probably be noticeably cooler during the days as well.

Mainly sunny, locally some showers and snow showers in the mountains are expected on Sunday, according to Rosengren.

Yellow warning: The weather can have consequences for society and pose certain risks to the public. Disruptions to some community functions are expected.

Orange warning: Can have serious consequences for society, pose a danger to the public, and cause serious damage to property and the environment. Disruptions to community functions are expected.

Red warning: Very serious consequences for society and great danger to the public. Extensive disruptions to community functions are expected.
