The architectural duo Arrhov Frick has reused the previous interior design instead of creating a new one. But when the State Centre for Architecture and Design, Arkdes, reopens on September 27, there is hardly anything left from before except for the collections.

A new large climate control system makes it possible for the museum to now display these in much larger extent than before. The new large collection exhibition is permanent, but will be updated frequently.

We have approximately four million objects in our collections, many of which are drawings. They are artworks in themselves and show incredibly exciting processes. Or as a colleague of mine said: "It's us who have the originals, what you see in the city is just the copies", says Karin Nilsson, head of operations and acting director.

Among other things, Gunnar Asplund's nine sketches and proposals for Stockholm's city library are now on display – as it could have been.

But there are also seven temporary exhibitions, such as "Designing motherhood" featuring, among other things, a menstrual cup and a groundbreaking breast pump.

All objects have been designed by someone or some – everything has arisen with a thought.

The renovation has cost 18 million kronor. Until the end of the year, the museum, adjacent to the Modern Museum, also offers free admission to visitors. How can you afford that?

It's a joint priority, we want the museum to reach out to more people.
