Anna Olskog: "Not an isolated school problem"

The massacre in Örebro must not be reduced to an isolated school problem, says Anna Olskog, Chairman of the Swedish Teachers' Association. It highlights a societal problem that requires cooperation across party lines.

On Wednesday, Anna Olskog was on site in Örebro to support local elected officials. She is reticent about what was told to her, but notes that school staff in the municipality had received training in lockdown – something that may have saved lives.

Olskog also notes that most teachers in Örebro went to work the day after the incident.

They meet their students and create security. They are professionals.

She emphasizes that shock and grief must be allowed to take their time.

Then we will discuss in depth how we prevent and protect ourselves. This must not result in any quick fixes.

This was also something she conveyed to Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (The Moderate Party) when they met at a memorial site with flowers and lit candles at Campus Risbergska.

We do not have all the answers regarding this incident, but it goes beyond the school's boundaries. There are several reasons to see the whole picture and not get stuck in detail issues, says Olskog.
