All new automatic rifles in the Defence Forces are to be checked, reports DN.
Last week, it became clear that the Finnish automatic rifle AK24 – which is to replace the older and heavier AK5 in the Swedish defence – had problems and was therefore banned from shooting. For some reason, there was a second's delay between pressing the trigger and the shot being fired.
Now, all are to be checked.
We estimate that it will take a few weeks to rectify this, says Carl-Axel Blomdahl at the Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) to DN.
So far, 22,500 AK24s have been purchased, but the goal is for the entire war organisation to be equipped with the new weapon. Then, 128,600 automatic rifles will be needed by 2035.
