The alarm came at lunchtime, around 11 am. The police do not want to comment on the man's injuries, but confirm that he was conscious when he was taken to the hospital.
At 2 pm, he was still on the operating table, after that I know nothing more. But he was awake when he was taken to the hospital, says police spokesperson Mats Eriksson to TT at 4:20 pm.
Later on Wednesday evening, the police tell P4 Stockholm that the man no longer has life-threatening injuries.
The shooting took place in a restaurant area in the Sollentuna centrum mall, north of Stockholm, and parts of the mall were cordoned off while the police worked. The incident is being investigated as attempted murder.
Many witnessed the event.
There are a large number of witnesses that we are interviewing, and we are also conducting various forms of technical investigations and surveillance to find one or more perpetrators, says police spokesperson Anders Bryngelsson.
No one arrested
The police are also going through the center's surveillance cameras, but do not want to say if the shooting was caught on film.
As recently as Sunday, a shooting occurred in a shopping center in Kungsbacka. In that case, two 14-year-olds are suspected of attempted murder and accessory to attempted murder, respectively.
Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer (M) is in Kungsbacka on Wednesday due to the shooting.
"The recent shootings in Kungsbacka, Malmö, and now Sollentuna, confirm that we cannot slow down in the fight against serious violence", he says in a written comment.
Strömmer states that the Ministry of Justice is in contact with the police and is following the developments.
Support group activated
Sollentuna Municipality announces that it is cooperating with the police and other actors to create safety in the area.
"The municipality's support group, posom, is activated and is on site at Turebergshuset on Turebergs torg next to Sollentuna centrum for those in need of support due to what has happened", the municipality writes on its website.
