In an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Swede hits back at the speculations that have circulated around his hockey career and private life.
I don't need any sympathy. Everything is "fake". Nobody has any idea what has happened to my family and my life, he says.
Lehner has not played for Vegas Golden Knights in NHL hockey since 2022 when he underwent a hip operation. At the same time, he has been involved in a legal process where he has been placed in a form of economic bankruptcy, so-called chapter 7 procedure. Lehner is said to have debts of up to 27 million dollars, nearly 300 million Swedish kronor, and has avoided his legal representative.
People have described me as being absent, but I don't need to answer to anyone, says Lehner, who however does not want to answer in the interview where he is currently located.
Notorious Snake Farm
Lehner has been noticed for his investment in a notorious snake farm, something he admits in the interview did not turn out as he had hoped:
I tried to do good things with the snakes. I have loved animals my whole life. I have seen how many snakes are taken from the wild in the USA, he says and continues:
I have been all over Florida and met people who sold animals. I have seen it myself, it's crazy how many. So I tried to make a pension plan, which was ruined by other reasons.
Bipolar Disorder
The Swede has also opened up about his problems regarding mental health and what it's like to live with a bipolar disorder. In the interview, he admits it has been tough.
It has been a tough time, I blame myself. I shouldn't say it's everyone else's fault, but the media has blown this up.
