"After today's acquittal, I can finally put this challenging period behind me," says Kerr in a statement.
She continues:
"Even though I apologize for expressing myself poorly during what was a traumatic evening, I have always stood firm that I did not intend to offend or harm anyone."
It was after a night out in January 2023 that a dispute arose, when soccer star Kerr and her partner, West Ham midfielder Kirstie Mewis, were driven to a police station in Twickenham by a taxi driver.
The taxi driver claimed, among other things, that the couple refused to pay for cleaning after one of them spat in the car. According to Kerr, the driver held the couple back in the car against their will.
At the police station, the star is said to have become "angry and abusive" towards a police officer. Kerr told the court that she feared for her life during the taxi ride, and that she felt the police did not take her seriously.
I feared for my life. All thoughts went through my head about being in a car with a stranger who I considered dangerous. It was impossible to reason with him. It was his way or nothing, said Sam Kerr to a jury.
The verdict came on the seventh day of the trial.
