A healthcare employee who has been charged with rapes and sexual assaults of a patient at Akademiska Hospital in Uppsala has been released on bail pending sentencing, writes UNT.

He is charged with having raped a female patient at the hospital twice in 2021. He was also charged with one case of sexual harassment against her, but has consistently denied all criminal suspicions.

On Thursday, the district court decided that he no longer needs to be detained.

My assessment is that he is highly unlikely to be convicted of what he is charged with, says the man's defender, lawyer Christer Söderberg, to UNT.

The prosecutor demanded that he be sentenced to three and a half years in prison. The district court's verdict will be announced next week.
