World number five Ludvig Åberg underwent a meniscus operation at the beginning of September, with the hope of being back in time for the European Tour's two final tournaments in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in November.
Perhaps the plan was a bit too optimistic. Åberg chooses not to compete next week.
"Ludde is on the go and hitting balls, and the rehab after the operation has gone well. But it got a bit too tight for Abu Dhabi", writes mentor Peter Hanson to TT.
Then, on November 14-17, the tour's final tournament awaits in Dubai. The following week, The RSM Classic will be decided in Georgia, a tournament where Ludvig Åberg is the reigning champion after taking his first and so far only PGA tour title there last year.
Whether Åberg will tee off in Dubai and Georgia remains to be seen.
"We'll see. I'll talk to him in the next few days", writes Hanson.
Ludvig Åberg's knee problems became serious again in connection with his second-place finish in his major debut, the US Masters, at Augusta National in April.
After a shorter competition break, the young Swedish sensation – he turns 25 on Thursday – was able to play as planned throughout the summer. He was operated on the week after the PGA Tour's final tournament.
