Canadian Summer McIntosh concluded the individual distances with a victory on 400 meter medley, a whole 7.48 seconds ahead of Jenna Forrester, Australia, and Mio Narita, Japan, who shared the silver.
The 12-year-old Chinese Yu Zidi came fourth also in her third individual event in Singapore.
McIntosh is heading home from Singapore with four gold and one bronze in the individual competitions. It is the same number of medals, but better in value than Sarah Sjöström's medal record for women from the World Championship in South Korea 2019. Then she took one gold, two silver and three bronze.
It is usually Sjöström who wins 50 meter freestyle in the World Championship. But when the now pregnant Swede cannot participate, it became an Australian victory in Singapore. Meg Harris won on 24.02 – 24 hundredths ahead of the Chinese Wu Qingfeng and 26 hundredths ahead of Cheng Yujie, also China.
Sjöström won 50 meter freestyle at the World Championship the last three years (and 2017) and also took Olympic Games gold last year.
Léon Marchand set a world record on 200 meter medley and the question was whether it would become another gold and a world record on the double distance.
The answer was yes for gold but no for world record. The Frenchman won clearly on 4.04,73, more than two seconds over his world record time from 2023. Marchand was 3.59 seconds ahead of the second, Tomoyuki Matsushita, Japan.
The World Championship concluded with a world record which the USA's women improved on 4x100 meter medley with the time 3.49,34. The team included Regan Smith, Kate Douglass, Gretchen Walsh and Torri Huske.
