Oscar Piastri chased McLaren teammate Lando Norris for a long time at Hungaroring. Norris, unlike most drivers, made only one pit stop – a strategy that held all the way to victory.
But it was close that Oscar Piastri would overtake. Piastri pressured Norris at the end and made several serious attempts to overtake, but could not get past.
I'm dead, it was tough. We had not planned for just one stop, but it became so. Very satisfying, says Norris in the victory interview after the race.
It's always a bit of a gamble, says Norris about the strategy change in the middle of the race.
Dissatisfied Leclerc
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc had pole position in the race, but was seriously dissatisfied with the team's strategy during the race. Repeatedly, the Monegasque scolded the team and meant that "it's not possible to drive in this way" and that it would be a "miracle" if he managed to get up on the podium. It is unclear whether Leclerc was most dissatisfied with the pit stop strategy, the car or his own driving.
Leclerc eventually saw himself being overtaken by George Russell in Mercedes, who came third.
Break
The F1 circus is now taking a summer break. The next competition is in the Netherlands last weekend in August.
Oscar Piastri still leads the total ahead of Lando Norris. Max Verstappen in the Red Bull car is third.
