That Daniel Ståhl would take his tenth Swedish Championship gold in discus was expected. More surprising was the result in the women's long jump where 18-year-old Ayla Hallberg Hossain stood as the winner.

The 18-year-old long jumper Ayla Hallberg Hossain won a very even Swedish Championship final in Karlstad with four jumpers within six centimeters and the medal trio within two. Hossain jumped 6.56, second Khaddi Sagnia 6.55 and third Maja Åskag 6.54.

I'm really happy, I didn't know how it would end, says Hossain, who had a nervous wait for the other top names to finish jumping, to SVT.

Hossain will be participating in the U20 European Championship in Tammerfors next week.

I'm first in the European statistics so I hope for a medal, she says.

”It was super fun”

In the women's high jump, Ellen Ekholm pushed the new star Engla Nilsson. Both took 1.90. Nilsson won because she went through the competition without failures.

It was super fun, I'm extremely happy for Ellen's sake, says Nilsson to SVT, considering that Ekholm set a personal record.

And I'm satisfied with having found a lowest level of 1.90.

Engla Nilsson took bronze in the indoor European Championship in the spring.

Ståhl ”on track”

The reigning World Champion in discus, Daniel Ståhl, is starting to find his form ahead of the World Championship in Tokyo in September. He took his tenth Swedish Championship gold with a best throw of 68.83 – more than ten meters longer than second Wictor Petersson's 58.27.

I feel really on track now, says Ståhl, who has had some problems with the timing of the throws.

It's just a matter of time, grinding on training and you'll get it in competition. I feel really on track.

His partner, shot putter Fanny Roos, showed top form with five throws over 19 meters – the longest 19.36. She is eighth on the world's best list this year with 19.66 meters.

Can be a large World Championship team

National team coach Kajsa Bergqvist is very pleased with the results in the Swedish Championship in Karlstad which ended on Sunday.

We have stars and a high level of results in the breadth of Swedish athletics. We may be heading for the largest World Championship team in many years with a bit over 30 athletes, she says to SVT.
