16 years imprisonment for explosion in Linköping

A man who was behind an explosion in a stairwell to an apartment building in the Johannelund district of Linköping earlier this year is sentenced to 16 years in prison. The 37-year-old man is convicted of several different crimes, local media reports.

In March, an explosion occurred shortly after 1 am in a stairwell in Linköping. Residents had to be evacuated and the house suffered damage, but no one was injured.

A 17-year-old boy, suspected of three murders in the Stockholm area, had previously lived at the address, reports Corren.

The 37-year-old man was sentenced by the Linköping District Court for, among other things, aggravated general endangerment, two attempted murders, and reckless endangerment of others. He has no prior convictions.

According to the verdict, he was behind a shooting at Tensta Galleria in Stockholm in March.

In addition to the prison sentence, the man must pay approximately 1.2 million kronor in damages.

The 37-year-old claimed during the trial that he was forced to carry out the explosion and that he was in a crisis situation.
